From the pic I picture you sitting on the beach somewhere chilling out and then when thinks begin to cool off you retract onto the patio of your five star hotel room overlooking the sea a begin to write about good press and self promotion. I can only assume that you where motivated to write this article by the events which happened to you that day. Probably a friend who deserved better then what she was perceived as in a some banal situation that set your mind racing, trying to figure out the perfect way to self promote.

Thanks for your very detailed piece.
Personally what worked best for me as far as press goes was a short article in a New Jersey magazine in their Nov/Dec edition.

Even though the story was not available online, it got me a number of leads and a few jobs.

One thing I have to say though is that it took 5 months between the initial contact and the actual publication.
Magazines have their own rhythm.

I agree. If you can get the magazine staff to listen to your hard sell then you're on to a winner. But remember the magazine gets hundreds of calls everyday from PRs who are paid to follow up on press releases. So make sure your call doesn't blend in to the rest of them.</description>

A phone call allows you to pitch the story with some enthusiasm, and also show them that you are serious (its easy to send out a thousand press release emails, but you only phone a dozen magazines).</description>
