In my experience, plans are great for products once they're in the &quot;OK, now just make it&quot; stage (such as a bridge once the drawings have been approved). For everything else, including products where the client doesn't run the show all the way through (as is the case in the vast majority of cases), and including anything that requires creativity, iterative development is the way of the future.

In fact, it used to be the way of the past - in the 80s, most computer software products came about this way. Plans are great, if they plan &quot;work&quot;. As in &quot;order 800 fundaments from the foundry&quot;. If they involve development, let the creative people develop. Apart from checking that the creative team actually develops, there will soon be no need for project managers in creative projects.</description>
