I agree - Great article, its always useful to have an insight into how other developers use technology to develop apps, and the processes they went through, i myself haven’t been able to delve into Rails that much, however its installed on my server so now i’m looking to get my teeth into a learner app.

I think you have to focus on the public of your web app: if you are going to launch an international service, maybe you could price it in $ or €, but if your market is exclusively the UK one you could choose the £.

Heres a question for you, when creating a web app, would you recommend pricing it in $ or £ bearing in mind i am a UK based web developer.....im presuming that by pricing it with the $ you are going to grab the attention of the American public, however will it deter the UK public.

What development environment do you choose to create your Rails goodies with? Textmate, Radrails, Aptana or something else?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but ActiveRecord is a pattern separate from the ORM (Object-Relational Mapping) isn't it?

@Gabe: Hi Gabe, you made a right point. I think that it’s worth using hard-code Rails URLs only in extreme cases, e.g. when a developer has a complex page with hundreds of helpers: he can use fragmented caching to avoid the hard-code and speed up the app.

As for your second remark, I guess you’re right when you say that Rails is better suited for experts. Maybe I expressed the same concept in a different way. You have to use ORM only if you know what you are doing.

@David Jones: Hi David, we are three computer engineers at Extendi and two of us developed Professional on the Web in 20 days.

We didn't do any sort of test, even tough we try to optimize the app while coding it. Anyway we added fragment caching 10 days after the launch.

We have a dedicated Debian server and Professional on the Web shares resources with other our websites: It's an "old" P4 3Ghz with only 1GB of RAM. It's hosted in italy and we have a 5Mbs connection. For the moment consider that we use only a dispatch.

If you have any other questions, ask, you're welcome.
