Thomas Fuchs, the creator of the world-famous Scriptaculous AJAX library reveals why he started using AJAX, and his plans for a Lite version of Scriptaculous.

- Thomas got started with AJAX when they started thinking about building Fluxiom
- Scriptaculous was created because there wasn’t one integrated powerful JavaScript solution
- Scriptaculous has autocompletion, in-place editor, drag-and-drop and visual effects
- The most-loved featured in Scriptaculous is drag-and-drop
- Scriptaculous 1.5 will have more new features (came out in Dec)
- Thomas wants to do a “Scriptaculous Light” version
- Fluxiom is a digital asset management tool that allows people to get away from traditional web-based models.
- Fluxiom has a one-click tag editor
- AJAX is playing a part in helping the web mature
- Thomas is on the core team for Ruby on Rails and he feels it really “hits the nail on the head” for most web developers
- Rails makes programming fun again
- Rails 1.0 will have improved performance
- Fluxiom will be used for more than just digital asset management, in the future
