With OpenID you're reducing the exposure of your password - you still lose everything if it gets stolen, but at least there's only one place that it can be stolen from. If you use the same e-mail address for all of the accounts that you create and someone steals your e-mail password they can use the "recover password" feature on all of the sites coupled to that address to reset or steal the password used there.
